The Names Behind The Pints

Last month we discussed the names behind the pre-packaged ice cream sammies, but today we’re talking pints! Similar to the sammies, the pints are all architect-inspired. Let’s talk cream.

Campfire S’mores - salted tahitian vanilla bean ice cream, graham marshmallow cookie butter, dark chocolate squares

It’s also known as ‘Julia S’more-gan’ after our hero, architect Julia Morgan. She was the first woman to be admitted into the architecture program at l’Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the first woman architect licensed in California. She designed more than 700 buildings in California during her prolific career including institutions serving women and is best known for her epic work on Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California.

Balsamic Fig & Mascarpone - Italian mascarpone ice cream, balsamic glazed figs

This flavor, also known as ‘Eric Owen Moss-carpone,’ was named in honor of Eric Owen Moss, a California native. He practices architecture with his eponymously named LA-based firm founded in 1973. Throughout his career, Moss has worked to revitalize a once defunct industrial tract in Culver City, California, which is also the location of the flagship Coolhaus storefront. The neighborhood appreciates it, Eric!

Chocolate Molten Cake - dark chocolate ice cream, chewy cake pieces, fudge frosting swirl

Even though LA is known for starting dieting trends, we also have some of the best dessert spots in the country… and there’s something for everyone. Whether you prefer your chocolate cake super sophisticated or as an old school fat slice, this ice cream will be sure to knock your socks off.

Bananas Foster - banana ice cream, rum, dulce de leche swirl

Upon a visit to one of the all-time great restaurants in New Orleans, and the country, Commander’s Palace, we became inspired to turn their Bananas Fosters dessert, which was originally created there, into an additive ice cream flavor. Besides our obsession with this dessert, we are huge fans of pioneering restaurateur and co-founder of Commander’s Palace, Ella Brennan. We were almost moved to tears when our Bananas Foster pint was given a shout out in the ‘Commanding the Table’ documentary about her!

Dirty Mint Chip - fresh mint leaf ice cream, brown sugar, dark chocolate chips

This flavor was inspired by one of our all-time favorites, Richard Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller. He was an American architect, systems theorist, author, designer, inventor, and futurist. Fuller published more than 30 books, coining or popularizing terms such as “Spaceship Earth,” ephemeralization, and synergetic. His out of the box, multi-disciplinary thinking makes us think something like ice cream and architecture ARE meant to be together, after all.

Sundae Funday - tahitian vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate hazelnut butter, roasted almonds

There’s something about that epic sundae that sums up all good things in life. We’ve brought you our very favorite version: the best vanilla ice cream there is (humblebrag) featuring BOTH Tahitian & Madagascar vanillas, a ‘haus’-made chocolate hazelnut butter swirl, and roasted and toasted salted almonds. Put a cherry on it, if you like.

Salted Caramel - caramel ice cream, maldon sea salt

This flavor was created for renowned landscape architect, Mia Lehrer (so we call it a ‘Cara-Mia Lehrer’). Some of her notable work includes the Annenberg Community Beach House, Natural History Museum of LA County gardens, and Vista Hermosa Park, which was the first new public park in downtown Los Angeles in 100 years. She has been a key player in the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan for nearly 20 years. On June 25, 2014 the president appointed her to serve a four year term on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. You go, Mia!   COOL stories create COOL flavors. Download a coupon and taste them all.
